The Cross-Platform Mobile Landscape in 2026
Cross-platform mobile development has matured significantly. Both React Native and Flutter are production-ready, widely adopted, and backed by major tech companies (Meta and Google, respectively). So how do you choose?
React Native: The Case For
Best if: You have a web team that knows React, or your app needs deep integration with existing web infrastructure.
- JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystem — your web developers can contribute
- Huge npm ecosystem — most third-party integrations already have RN support
- Closer to native feel on iOS with the New Architecture (JSI)
- Expo simplifies development and deployment dramatically
Limitations: Performance-heavy apps (heavy animations, complex graphics) can feel less smooth than Flutter.
Flutter: The Case For
Best if: You want maximum UI consistency across platforms or are building a highly animated, design-forward app.
- Pixel-perfect UI across iOS, Android, Web, and Desktop
- Better performance for animation-heavy UIs
- Dart is easy to learn for most developers
- Strong adoption in fintech and consumer apps
Limitations: Dart is not widely known, and bridging to native platform APIs can be complex.
Our Recommendation
At DHM Solutions, we default to React Native with Expo for most clients because:
- Most clients already have web teams familiar with React
- The ecosystem for third-party libraries is richer
- Expo has solved most of the deployment complexity
We recommend Flutter when the client's primary concern is highly animated UI or they're also targeting Desktop.
